Apart from law and order and counter-insurgency work as well to the counter-insurgency mission, the CRPF plays a more prominent role in India's national elections. This is especially true in this once-proud and proud state Jammu along with Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, where there's a lot of violence and chaos. When the Parliamentary elections took place in September 1999, the CRPF played a significant role as an army of security. As of late, CRPF contingents are also being deployed for UN missions.
